What is KYC & Why Does CoinPort Require It?
KYC (Know Your Customer) is a mandatory identity verification process required by Australian law (AUSTRAC regulations). CoinPort verifies identities using Didit, a specialist identity-verification service, through a secure in-browser flow.
🔹 Why KYC is Required: ✔ Prevent fraud & money laundering ✔ Comply with financial regulations ✔ Secure user accounts from unauthorised access
Step-by-Step Verification on CoinPort
1. Sign Up & Start Verification
- Create a CoinPort account (email + password).
- Go to “Verification” in your account dashboard and start the process — it opens right in your browser, no app required.
2. Scan Your ID Document
- Point your camera at your photo ID. A phone camera in good light works best.
- Avoid glare, shadows and cropped edges — all four corners of the document should be visible.
3. Live Selfie Check
- You’ll be asked for a real-time selfie which is matched against your ID photo, with liveness detection to prevent photos-of-photos.
- Good lighting, no filters, and remove anything obscuring your face (sunglasses, hats).
4. Wait for the Result
- Most verifications complete in 5–30 minutes; you’ll be notified once approved.
Documents You Can Use
📌 Supported Documents:
- Australian users:
- Passport (preferred)
- Driver’s Licence
- International users:
- Passport (required)
How the Technology Works
Verification uses AI-powered checks for speed and accuracy: 🔸 Document Authentication: detects tampering or forgery. 🔸 Facial Recognition: matches your selfie with your ID photo. 🔸 Liveness Detection: confirms a real person is present. 🔸 Watchlist Screening: checks against global sanctions lists, as the law requires.
Common Issues & Solutions
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| “Blurry Document” | Poor photo quality | Retake in good lighting, hold steady, avoid glare |
| “Name Mismatch” | Typo or nickname used | Use the exact name shown on your ID |
| “Expired ID” | Document out of date | Renew your ID and try again |
| “Failed Selfie” | Glasses/hat obstructing face | Remove them and retry |
| “Camera Not Working” | Browser permissions | Allow camera access, or switch to your phone |
How Long Does Verification Take?
- 5–30 minutes – most cases (automated checks).
- Up to 24 hours – if a manual review is needed.
What If My Verification Is Rejected?
- Check the reason provided in your dashboard or email.
- Fix the issue (better photo, current document, exact name).
- Try again from your dashboard.
- Contact support via chat or [email protected] if it still won’t pass.
Re-verification for Existing Customers
Customers who verified under our previous provider may be asked to complete a one-time re-verification through the current flow. It’s the same quick in-browser process, and only ever needs doing once.
Security & Privacy
